A PRAYER TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE

"The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on
him in truth." -- Psalms 145:18

A "Daily Encounter" reader shares how, while he is a committed
Christian, he often finds it hard to read his Bible and pray
even though he finds it easy to read other material.

I think many people struggle with this same problem. I know
I certainly go through my dry periods when I feel like God
is far away and that my prayers don't go beyond the ceiling.
Times like this have been called the "dark night of the
soul" and are experienced by many, if not most Christians
from time to time.

I keep praying anyhow regardless of my feelings and take
God's answer by faith because he has promised to
always hear and answer our prayers when we come to him
through Jesus when our prayer is genuine from the heart --
no matter what it is.

Among other things, I have a couple of special prayers
that I like to pray every day.

First: "Again today, God, I'm available. Please use me
to be a part of what you are doing in the world today
and help me to be as Jesus to the people you bring
into my life. In Jesus' name."

Second: I also pray every day, "Again today, dear God,
I commit and trust my life to you as I do that of my loved
ones (and name each one of them). Please continue to
bless us wonderfully. Please be with us in everything we
do. Greatly expand our [Christian] borders. . .and please
keep us from all evil and disaster. In Jesus' name."

This prayer has been very special to me for years.
